What is the difference between manufactured stone (Cambria, Caesarstone, etc) and natural granite?
Natural stone is just that, natural. It is created from rock formations deep in the earth and consists primarily of quartz. Granite is cut from a mountain and polished to a fine shine and cut to fit your countertop. Each piece varies in color, pattern and can have natural fissures. Since each piece is unique we recommend that you pick out the pieces you would like to use from one of our distributors. This will insure that you get the look that you desire. Since the stone is porous it will need to be sealed to maintain the shine and protect the stone from stains.
Unlike natural stone manufactured stone is consistent in color and pattern, each piece is identical. Most manufactured stones come with a warranty and care guide.
How do I care for my new countertops?
Your countertops are made with care and sealed for you at the end of the installation. Simple soap and water is all that is needed to keep your counters looking clean and new. If you have natural granite they will need to be resealed approximately every 6 – 12 months. The granite sealer can be picked up at your local hardware or tile store. (For more information please see the helpful hints page)
How do I pick out granite slabs?
There are several stone distribution centers that we work closely with that have large showrooms. We will put you in contact with a specialist that will assist you in picking out that perfect granite slab.
How do I choose a color?
Choosing a color may seem like a daunting task but rest assured that we are here to help. One of our color specialists will bring granite samples out to your house and suggest several colors that would fit your space. Keep in mind area lighting, cabinet colors and floor coloring. Appliance color will also be a factor.
When using granite there are several color layers within any slab. Many of the colors change appearance based on the colors around it. To be sure that you like the way the color looks with your kitchen/bathroom we suggest when picking our granite slabs that you take with you a few items from that room; cabinet door, tile from floor, or paint samples.
What do seams look like?
Due to slab sizes and countertop layout, there may be seams. We minimize this as much as possible but when seams are needed we make them virtually disappear. Seams are glued together with a special adhesive colored to match the stone. Our installers are trained to line up each side and close the seam as tight as possible.
What is the difference between 2CM and 3CM?
Simply it is the difference of the thickness. 3CM is a thicker granite slab and will be a bit more expensive. It is placed directly on the cabinets.
2CM is slightly thinner and is glued to a sub deck. (MDF board) There is a small piece adhered to the edge that will be polished and will cover the sub deck.

What is the difference between undermounted sinks and top mounted? Which is better?
A top mount sink is a sink where the lip or the sink is on top of the countertop. Since it is a simple square cut into the granite it is done onsite and this can create a bit of dust. Due to the demolition of existing countertops and the removal the sink we recommend the purchase of a new sink. The sink will be placed in place at installation but will not be caulked or sealed. Your plumber will need to do that during the reconnection of the plumbing.
Undermount sinks are mounted underneath the countertop. When purchasing an undermount sink ensure that it comes with a template. This will be taken at the time of template and used to cut and polish the correct size hole for your sink. If you have any questions the associate present during template will be happy to assist you. Our installers will mount and caulk the sink in place during installation. The choice between the sinks is a personal preference.
What if I want a tile backsplash?
We offer a backsplash in several sizes including the standard 4” and full. (base of top cabinets) If you wish to do a contrasting material it needs to be done after the granite is installed. The walls and cabinets must be bare to insure a perfect countertop fit. As we do not specialize in tile we may be able to assist you in finding someone to install it for you.
How long does it all take?
Faster than you can imagine. The process is simple. We start with an in home estimate, then a template. From the date of template it is approximately 2 to 3 weeks to installation. In most cases demolition and installation will be done on the same day and done before dinner is ready. Call and get started today!
