Our process is simple and outlined here for you. If we missed anything our helpful
staff will be happy to assist you.
Measure
Once you call us to get started we will schedule and in home estimate. We will show
you samples of different materials and colors and help you pick out the one that
best suits your area. One of our experienced staff will take measurements of your
countertops and create an estimate. This is an estimate only not the final measurements
so you can still make adjustments.
Template
The template will be scheduled shortly after the measure or estimate. This will
be the exact measurements that we cut off of. If you have rounded counters or a
unique design we will lay out wood in a mold to make sure that your new counters
fit perfectly. At this time we need to make any final adjustments to design and
layout. You also need to have the new sink available.
Slabs
As soon as possible you need to finalize what color you want. Slabs need to be picked
out. These slabs can be picked out and one of many shops in the valley and your
sales associate / project manager will help you find the location closest to you.
The slabs you pick out will be the exact slabs that are used. Each one has a serial
number and will be tagged for your job. Once the slabs are signed off on they will
be shipped to the fabrication shop and cutting will begin.
Demolition / Installation
The demolition of your existing countertops will be done just prior to your new
counters being installed. In most cases it is done the same day to minimize the
length of time you are without your kitchen.
Should you choose to do your own demolition we request that it is done prior to
the day of installation to ensure a speedy install.
If you have a cook top stove or a top mounted sink the cutting will be done on site
and there may be some dust.
If any holes are to be drilled for a new faucet you will be asked for placement.
In some cases sinks require a particular faucet placement and you will be informed
of the placement prior to holes being drilled. All holes will be drilled on site.
The countertops will be cleaned and sealed immediately after installation.
Plumbing
Any sinks involved need to be disconnected and removed prior to installation. They
can be reconnected after we leave. Due to the sealants and caulk that we use we
recommend that you wait 24 hours before running water. In the case of an undermount
sink, we will mount the sink and seal it in place. For a top mount sink it will
be put in place but not sealed.
Mike’s Countertops is not licensed to do any plumbing therefore we can not
perform such work, however we have several plumbers that we work closely with and
would be happy to help you get this taken care of.
Care Guide
Engineered or manufactured stone does not need to be resealed and simple soap and
water is all that is needed to ensure the gloss and sheen of your countertops. Avoid
harsh chemicals.
Granite is a natural porous material and we recommend resealing every 6 to 12 months.
The sealant can be purchased at your local hardwood or tile store. This sealant
helps repeals water and stains and is important that it is maintained. Most sealants
are simple to apply. Pour, rub in, set and rub off. High traffic areas need to be
done more frequently.
Wipe up any spills immediately to avoid damage. Acid based liquids such as lemon
juice can “eat” through any sealant and leave your granite exposed to
stains.
Warranty
Most manufactured stones come with a warranty directly from the manufacturer. This
is a limited warranty and needs to be read carefully.
Since granite is a natural surface it can not carry a warranty however the labor
is guaranteed for 2 years. If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate
to call and we will do our best to solve any issue.
